Might Spring Be Considering Springing?

And about blinkin' time too, I hear UK readers shouting. Blimey, it's been a bit of a long, cold winter here, compared to many of recent years. All that snow and ice has finally melted (only in the last few days though) and the sun seems to have remembered how to shine. It only does it in small bursts, peeping shyly from behind clouds, but there's no doubt it's there, and that it has a little warmth in its rays. I've even woken to the birds singing - a sure sign that the seasons are turning.

The trees are still wearing their winter twigs:

But just the light of the sun shining in the distance makes things somehow look a little greener and more promising:

I needed to get out and into some air yesterday. It's been a rather stressy week (for various reasons) Chez Wrinkle, so the Wrinklets and I hopped into the car and headed towards a local village which was holding a jumble sale. They didn't really want to go, but as always perked up once we were there. It was held in a barn, and growing in the woodland outside, there were clumps of snowdrops:

Once inside we all browsed the tables there - it was like an indoor car boot sale. No.1 came away with a couple of DVDs, a video of Billy Elliot (she's never seen it), a new swimming bag and a sweet little green beaded votive holder. No.2 bought some hand-held weights (he wants muscles, doncha know), some football cards and 3 Simpsons videos. And me? I didn't get much at all - just two items:

The red patterned piece of fabric is 2 metres, the other one is probably at least 4 metres. Guess how much the lady wanted for them? Go on ... No? OK then, I'll tell you. She asked for 50 pence. 25 pence for each of them. As you can imagine, I bought both, and warn you that you might see them featuring in some more bag experiments on a blog near you in the not too distant future!

After we left the sale, I took some photos - it is a pretty village. I'd have taken some shots of the gorgeous old houses, but the kids were too embarrassed to be seen with this batty old woman and her camera. 'Go home!' they urged me. Oh well, guess I'll have to go back on my own some time?

Another clue that spring is fast approaching? Bunches of daffodils for sale - so now I have a large vase of them in the sitting room, and another smaller vase on the kitchen windowsill:

You can't beat a perky daff to cheer you up, can you?

Hi Kitty,
not been to a 'proper' jumble sale for a while... great finds you got, and wow, fabric for just 50p!!. funny...we were talking about Billy Elliot just yesterday as i think the girls would enjoy it.
so Spring is a coming... i am so pleased as i can loose a few layers and start skipping as Spring always makes me want to skip...
Hope this week is a much less stressful one. Hope you have fun!
with love

Hi Kitty...looks like you had a wonderful time and that fabric is a bargain!Lovely to see the daffs....they're now in bud in my garden..roll on spring.;-)

So "green" with envy. Those photos are beautiful and I would love to be someplace that unpopulated! It has been dreary here, clowdy, dark, a bit of misty rain, really high winds off and on for over a week. Temps well below freezing. No snow, which stinks! If we are gonna have the cold and the dark, at least we should get some of the pretty stuff to make it all worth while, eh?

Areas around us have all been hit hard with the white stuff this year, it just somehow keeps missing us. I am starting to think intentionally!

Now, I am just ready for some warm sun and to see some green grass or early spring flowers to start popping up.

Love the red ivy print you got, what a great steal. Cannot wait to see what your next experiment looks like.

Enjoy!

Perky daffs, tumescent snow-drops - the sap really must be rising!

This cheery post give me hope, Kitty! Such delights to see with all the blue sky and daffodils. We're still hip-deep in snow here...But trying to keep going and think SPRING--LOL! Lovely fabrics...can't wait to see what you do with those. Happy week, my friend ((HUGS))

Hmmm, Spring seems to be springing up here too - but I hope it's the real one and not a pretend one with winter coming back in a few days to bite us!

Great fabric bargain!!!

Lovely daffodils! I hope Spring is on the way. We are still knee deep in snow and slush here and it is hard to believe that the sun ever shines!

50 pence! Wow! Do such jumble sales still exist! Most have gone "pro" with all the bargain hunters. I had to queue for half an hour just to get into our little church one at the weekend and then I couldn't look at anything as my daughter was in mortal danger from all the old biddies snapping up all the bargains in sight!

Oh yes, I hope spring is on its way, a little bit of sunshine and some pretty flowers really give you a lift don't they?

Hope this week is a better one.

Gosh England is so beautiful! I love how green it is looking! I am afraid we are heading towards Autumn here in Australia, but I am looking forward to the rain and fresh green grass again!

I love jumble sales... we go to a car boot sale every other Sunday, and I have picked up some beautiful things!
You have a very nice blog! :)

Yes Spring is definitely a coming in. The evenings are getting lighter and "hundreds" of bulbs are shooting up in our garden. There is now a little warmth in the sun too if you can get out of the wind. Bye bye Winter!

Kitty said...

Hi Ginny - That's the first jumble sale I've been to in YEARS. Apparently it might become a regular 'thing' if enough people show an interest. (My worry about Billy Elliot is the rather 'ripe' language :-O ) x

Hi Nicey - Gosh, you're noticing spring? Do you like the fact that you're noticing it, or did you prefer the zoned out not noticing it thing? x

Hi Ali - Perky daffs: can't beat them. I can't wait for spring - I need some warmth! x

Hi Clare - I like Daffs too, although cornflowers are my all time favourites. x

Hi Sal - It was a nice afternoon out, I must say. I just needed to be out in the country I think. Don't really know why, but it did the trick anyway. x

Hi MI. We are very lucky here, within about a 20 minute drive we can be in rolling countryside. Sorry to hear it's still so cold there :-( The cold was really getting me down. x

Hi Mr Dot - The sap! Of course - a young man's fancy and all that. x

Hi Tracy - Awww, poor you still snowed in :-( I really hope the sun starts to shine it's rays your far north soon. It can't be much fun to have that much snow for months on end. (((T))) x

Kitty said...

Hi Lucy - Yes, I hope it's the real one too. Better not cast a clout and all that malarkey until much later in the year, eh? x

Hi Natasha - Oh crikey - whereabouts are you? I hope the sun starts shining on you soon. We haven't had that much of it so far here, but I'm very grateful for what we have had! Haven't been to a jumble sale in years - it was great, I hope they do more of them. We went an hour after the start - to avoid the old biddies! x

Hi FM - They certainly do! (Rum run of results, eh? :-( ) x

Hi Gina - The fabrics were hiding under a table - I'm so glad I found them! I like the red one best too - wonder what it'll become?! x

Hi Mrs Trash - We need lots of that nice sunshiney stuff don't we? An end to the ice on the car in the mornings, etc. I'm fed up with it! x

Hi Jessy - and welcome to my Bloggy Bits. You think that's green? Pah! I'll try to post more in around April/May - then it'll be REALLY green! We don't seem to have many car boot sales round here - hence my keenness not to miss the jumble sale. Thanks for dropping in - I shall visit you soon. Take care :-)

Hi CB - Hooray! Spring is on its way - can't wait. x

Hi Troy - Isn't it great that we don't need to draw the curtains so early, or put the lights on in the car for the school run mid afternoon?! This last winter was not a nice one at all. x

That is so true, the cheerfulness of a simple bunch of yellow daffs is hard to beat!

Isn't it funny how the children don't want to go to a place but when they're there they're fine?! It is such an effort sometimes!

Looks a beautiful place. Sorry you have had a trying time. Thinking of you -

Hello Mrs MJW and welcome to my Bloggy Bits. Were you from Wales? Where are you now? I shall have to visit your blog soon to find out! Thanks for dropping by. x

Hi Helen - Yep, come on Spring! x

Hi Dawn - Oh no :-O More snow? Gosh I hope it ends for you soon. x

Hi WW - I couldn't believe my ears when she said 50p for both! Oh freesias are gorgeous aren't they? x

Hi Burby - I love daffs - they are somehow so 'hopeful'. I've warned the kids we are going to do lots of going out to take photos this spring/summer. They're not enthused! x

Hi Picciolo - It's not as warm and springlike today - hope it's not on the retreat! The fabric was a great bargain. x

Hi Sas! It was a lovely weekend weatherwise here - but back to grey and chilly today :-( Hope it comes back soon! x

Hi Kitty, Great fabric. I can't wait for spring...the car boots start again, i am having withdrawal symptoms :) xx

Lovely to see some greenery, it's very brown and/or black around these parts. Autumn should bring us some much needed rain. So far this year we've had a total of approx 30 mins of drizzle which has done nothing, not even settled the dust/ash:-( Might get some wet stuff later this week but I'm not holding my breath! My favourite Spring sight when we were still in the UK were the masses of Bluebells in a local wood. Simply stunning ;-)

Great fabric bargain, haven't been to a jumble sale for donkeys years, perhaps I should keep my eyes open for one....

I talked to my daughter in Michigan on Saturday. They were having a snowstorm.

It is going to be near 80 by then end of this week.

Spring came early for me this year.

Spring flowers are my all time favourites, yet Autumn is my favoutite season.
I adore daffodils, but could never have them in the house, since my youngest son is allergic!

Spring is here!
Woohoo!

Kitty said...

Hi Ron - Yes, you must. We are blessed with some beautiful countryside over here. x

Hi Alex - The fabric is lovely isn't it? Especially the price! I think I will be hunting out a few more car boots this year. x

Hi Sharon - It must be horrible that your country has been so dry this year :-( I know from past droughts here that it looks so 'shabby' when all you can see is dusty dirt and no grass, etc. I too love to see bluebells - so beautiful. x

Hi Mike - How are you getting on in Texas? Big change for you both? Glad to 'see' you though, I trust the interweb problems have been sorted for you? x

Hi Malach - It's already colder and greyer than it was at the weekend, so spring is definitely not quite here yet. Can't wait though - this winter's been cold! x

Hi Blossom - LOL at you hating the heat. I agree with you about a sale though! x

Hi Meggie - I love spring and autumn too - seasons of huge transition without the extremes of temperature of summer or winter. I love the energy and smell of spring, and the colours of autumn are just spectacular. x

Hi Chloe - not quite I'm afraid, but it's on its way! x

Oh yes the season of car boots sales is upon us...yippee! I'm so ready for spring...I've had enough of the cold winter (can you believe I, the hardened Canadian, is admitting this in February!)

Love the pics...I'm just the same when we go places..a camera lives in my handbag and I snap anything that is of interest.

Tawny said...

I am loving the first signs of spring, the fact that I can go out without a coat on is lovely.

Hi Kitty! Gosh that place looks nice! and what a BARGAIN with that fabric! Oh yes, there's nothing like a bit of a perky daff. x

elaine said...

hello Kitty.
There really is something cheery about daffodils that makes me smile. What a wonderful place to be. Thank-you for bringing spring closer. Right now it's actually not that close here. (soon) I look forward to your bag experiments and more about this elusive Spring. I would have scooped up that fabric too! xox

Primrose Corner said...

Love the fabric Kitty, especially the red flowery one. And yes it was fantastic to finally get out of the house to BE somewhere else. Love the daffodils. They really tell you that spring and hopefully better weather is on it's way.

Kitty said...

Hi Jane - I shall be keeping my eye out for those boot sales! We don't get a lot of them round here. I'm with you on the 'had enough of winter' thing. My camera is only lately a 'handbag object' but I'm very much enjoying it. x

Hi Tawny - Yes, I've had a couple of coatless days - it's fabulous isn't it? x

Hi Julia - That place is very nice, but then we're lucky round here for the countryside. I do love a good bargain - especially a fabric bargain! x

Hi Elaine - Daffodils are so uplifting aren't they? I'll never forget seeing them all over the banks and gardens the day we brought No.1 home from hospital after she was born - her birthday's not for a few more weeks yet, but daffodils always remind me of that. x

Hi PC - It seems the red fabric has got more 'votes' here than the other one! I really needed to be OUT - you just do sometimes, don't you? I can't wait for spring. x

PENolan said...

Dang! You sure did give me an award - back in October and I totally missed it. My only excuse is that in October half America was foaming at the mouth over Sarah Palin.

Even though its still cold there's a definite wind-in-the-willows spring feeling in the air here too.

Kitty said...

Hi Trish - I suspect there is at least one and probably more from before then as well. Thank you for writing such a great blog! x

Hi Anne - Brilliant bargain wasn't it? Now I can't wait for the next car boot/jumble sale to see if I can nab more! x

Hi Lauren - lovely to 'see' you! It's got colder again since those pictures were taken last weekend :-( So Spring is being a bit of a tease ;-) x

Hi RS - Minus 20? :-O Ugh! I hope it warms up and stops snowing SOON. x

Hi Amy - I will definitely be trying to find more sales for later in the year. And will take my camera to get some more nice scenery for you all to see too. x

Hello Kaz! Good bit of business or what, eh?! I see you found my large pink breasts - impressive?! Would you like the pattern - you could knit a pair in an evening - great fun. Thanks for the hug - hope things get better for your family soon. x

Hello Mrs Moogs - My garden is doing precisely nothing. Like it was when we moved in. All I've 'grown' is a shed. I really need to do something about that. Glad you liked your care parcel - there was way too much of it for me to use. x

Hi Jackie - It's got much colder here too. Spring was just teasing us, it's hiding again now! x

Spring springing . . . Sounds dirty . . . And fun . . .

monkee maker said...

Ooh, you and yours scored well at the jumble - I hope No. 1 enjoyed Billy Elliot .... but really, how could she not?!

You're such a good mother, btw, in actually listening to your kids and not taking photos of other peoples houses (I'd have been in the middle of the road snapping away and ignoring their embarrassed grumbling. Good job we're all different I guess!)

And for someone who bemoaned their crochet skills a few short weeks back, you are one seriously neat crochetist!!

:)

Kitty said...

Hello CD&M - lovely to 'see' you back. I'm afraid the weather's got colder again now, but this morning was a lovely sunrise so that's something. x

Hi Lazylol - Oh yes, I couldn't agree more. They just don't have them much anymore do they? We don't have that many car boot sales round here either ... although I've discovered one that will be held in a couple of weeks' time. I'll be there! x

Hi Heleen - It is lovely to hear the birds isn't it? x

Hi Mr A - Lovely to 'see' you. Traditionally Spring is when the sap rises - more power to its elbow, I say. x

Hi MM - We did do well. Billy Elliot hasn't been watched yet - we have to find a time when No.2 isn't around as the language is rather *ripe*. If it was one child I might have been able to ignore it, but two feels a bit more like being ganged up on! As for the crocheting - thank you for telling me the term was 'crochetist' ... and there's me been calling myself a hooker! x
