Valentine's Swap (2008)

I think it was in January that Mrs Locket posted a blog tentatively suggesting she might organise a 'Valentine's Swap' and did anyone fancy joining in? I had seen these craft swaps occurring round the blogosphere but had never taken part before. This time I decided I'd have a go (though had worries about whether my swapee would like whatever I made) - and what a splendid bit of fun it's been. Each of us filled in a questionnaire which gave information on what crafts we liked, what sort of colours and medium we favoured, and then names were drawn from the hat to determine pairs of partners.

My swap partner was the lovely and funny WMK. We exchanged some emails and got to know one another a little bit. On finding out she has a 3 yr old I asked if I might make something for him and she kindly said that would be great. So I did. I posted off my parcel and had fingers, legs, arms and eyes all crossed that she'd like the contents (and that her tiddler would too).

Yesterday I received my parcel from her ... such excitement as my smalls and I quickly got some scissors to cut open the box, and what treasures we found within:

There was a card which said 'There might be girls who think they're as hot as we are, but they're wrong' ... which made me chuckle. There was plenty of chocolate (white ... as is my preference), and some 'Sweethearts' - they look the same as the sweets we have here called 'Love Hearts', and were immediately shared with visiting children. Whether or not MY chocolate gets shared with children is a moot point. There was a really sweet Valentines decoration comprising white paper 'globes' decorated with large red hearts. I shall either save that for next Valentine's Day, or we might use it at Christmas.

There was this wonderfully soft, pretty blue hand-knitted bag (made of a fabulous marl yarn) - which seems to have only one seam (at the bottom) ... OK WMK, tell me, how did you do that? It has a cord of the same yarn, and I love it!

And look at this ... a gorgeous glass bottle with a waxed top, which contains 4 ounces of pure golden honey. The smell is delicious and I can't wait to try the honey. I don't know whether I've ever said on the blog that I love honey, but I do - I have some every day - so it's a very appropriate gift:

And then ... blimey ... as if all that weren't enough, there was fabric ... I might have drooled in a most unattractive manner on finding it. OK, I did drool on finding it. Thank God I didn't have the webcam on, so nobody could witness it; and that I had some tissues at hand with which to wipe down the table. For a fabric junkie like me, these fat quarters were such a fantastic gift ... Look at them:

Didn't I do well? Let's be honest, I did more than well, I am one very, very lucky blogger. Thank you so much WMK - you brought cheer to the Wrinkle household. And thank you Lucy - for organising the whole thing - it was very good fun: not only did I get a wonderful parcel, I've had a great time viewing and reading about the contents of other parcels which have been received. There are some very talented crafty bloggers out there.

And now Mrs Locket has posted that she's organising an Easter Bunny craft swap ... it took me about 2.596 nano-seconds to decide that I was in!

PS. Now I know my parcel has arrived, I can post pictures of the bits I sent to WMK: It was just a little appliqué picture for her son, and a felt covered book for her:

Hello there Mrs Locket - thank you for being such a good organiser, and for putting yourself through it all again for the bunny swap. x

Hi P&S - I expect I shall always make the appliqués as they are one of my favourite things to do. As for the felt covered notebook ... great minds think alike, eh? ;-) x

Hi Dawn - It's a lovely idea isn't it? Do you do any crafting? x

Hi Rachel - I did get some lovely things didn't I? It made my day. I have so enjoyed seeing what all these parcels have contained - it's great isn't it? x

Hi Maria - yep, cool is exactly what it is! x

Hi Tracy - I already have plans for some of that fabric and the upcoming Easter Bunny swap! Take care. x

SO so very glad that you like your package! Didn't realize that you are a honey bee - the jar caught my eye and when I learned that the beekeeper was a local farmer I couldn't resist including it : )

ps: can't wait to see what the fabric becomes! Makes me feel great to know that it's gone to a cloth-loving home *sigh* (yes, I do realize that I sound a little squirrely when speaking of fat-quarters)

Sounded like fun, but I would of just sent a real heart.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading your blog!

You put a lot of time in what you sent and the appliques are wonderful. Both packages looked fun to receive. Kitty your blog is so nice to visit.

Honey is great. My old pappy always said it was the best thing for coughs and he was right. Aren't you supposed to get Valentine gifts from a fella, or am I being simplistic?

Fabulous goodies there, Kitty, both the ones you received from WMK and the ones you sent. You should have more confidence in your craftiness, as they're great!

And I'm glad to see that the LSD subsided long enough for you to make and package off said goodies.

;)

Hello William - welcome. Thank you very much. :-)

Hi Sarah - I got a lovely parcel didn't I? Glad you liked the little car - as I said earlier, I'm sure I'll carry on with the appliqués as I enjoy making them. x

Hi Janet - it was a lovely parcel wasn't it? And yes, so many clever bloggers out there. Take care. x

Well hello there Swapee (WMK) - yep, I love honey, it was a lovely gift, thank you. And all the other bits were also similarly wonderful - THANK YOU SO MUCH! Oh, and there's nothing wrong with sounding 'squirrely' when talking about fat quarters ;-) xx

Hi Malach ... Would the real heart belong to you or some other person or animal? Obviously once their heart was gone, they wouldn't be an alive person or animal. But the sentiment is lovely. x

Hello Steve - Welcome to the Bloggy Bits. Thank you for visiting - I have already been over to your place - my you are a talented person. :-)

Hi Elaine - Thank you! Your blog is very lovely too - thank you for dropping by. x

Hello there GB. Honey is indeed wonderful - and I believe herbal medicine teaches that if you warm it, it becomes an aide to sleep.

As for Valentine gifts from fellas ... chance would be a fine thing ;-) x

Hi MM - I had a lovely parcel didn't I? My LSD has to be managed extremely carefully - sometimes it will accommodate a bit of crafting, though sadly such things as housework or ironing are often beyond its capabilities. Shame, eh? ;-) x

I would be honored for you to visit my blog on a regular basis! Hope you enjoy my zany things and sometimes odd sense of humor! Maybe we should swap blog links?

I used to do a lot of crafting but haven't bothered in the last few years. Pinecones were my specialty :)

All very nice gifts, but it's valentines day don't you think something with a little nudity on it was called for? Or is that just me again?

Kitty said...

Hi Steve ... consider it done :-) x

Hi Dawn ... Now what, precisely, did you do with those pinecones? :-O The thought of it is making my eyes water ;-) x

Hello Blossom - Yes, I was very lucky wasn't I? It's nice to meet another appliqué fan - usually the word 'appliqué' makes people think of old lady clothes :-O x

Hiya Jennie - Tsk - too late. Lucy's already done her bunny swap partnering. Maybe next time? :-D x

Hi PP - Yep, I got me a good deal, didn't I? The chocolate was indeed yummy - well, some of it still IS yummy, but most of it WAS yummy *blush* x

Hi RM - If fabric can make you drool then you have all the potential to be a first class fabric junkie. I know you are already a bead and findings junkie so the next step should be easy for you :-p x

Hello Meggie - glad you like the music - I change it very regularly. I'll take a look at that meme - thanks for thinking of me. It might just be a bit too soon after the 'quirky things' meme I did just a couple of weeks ago. x

Hi Queen Frog - Yes, I am very lucky, aren't I? :-D x

Hi HTGT - you are a fabric junkie too? It's a rather lovely addiction isn't it? :-D x

Hi Mr A - sock monkey? What sock monkey? :-p Actually, I have, just today, been working on a 'criminal' sock monkey! x

Hello Tintocktap - welcome to my Bloggy Bits. Thank you so much for that link - I have bookmarked it and will try to get hold of a copy. Thank you for dropping by. :-)

Hi Katie - You're very welcome. I'm really a complete techno-eejit, but I've learned a few bits and pieces as I've gone along (mainly due to one particular friend who manages to stifle laughter when I say 'how do I ....?' and 'What does it mean if .....?'

As for the cereal packets and what's it all about ... mostly added vitamins and a percentage of one's daily iron intake, as far as I can tell? x

Hi Ron - Yes it's just you again :-p

No, not really - I'm all for a bit of nudity on Valentine's Day, only (a) Mid February tends to be a bit on the chilly side; and (b) There was, sadly, no opportunity for said nudity.

Ho hum. x

what an awesome care package to get...such fun! I do crafty things too, but time is not in my favor for that as of late. If I get time to blog quickly, read a few other blogs, annoying Malach, Bruce, Mike or Colonel...I am a happy girl.

Good luck with the bunny drive. :)

Kitty, your applique work is so beautiful...I so can't do that...and the haul you got from WMK was awesome...so much fun stuff and chocolate? Wow good for you!

Great bunch of stuff you got there Kitty. As a matter of fact, it almost looks like Christmas in February.

Kitty said...

Hi cd&m ... I was a VERY lucky blogger. It's no wonder I want to do the next swap, is it? :-D x

Hello Monda - welcome. You're welcome - I've used Arnica for a few years now and it always seems to help. Hope it 'works' for you too. Take care. x

Hi MI - Well, annoying Malach, Bruce, Mike or Colonel is surely a 'craft' in its own right? ;-) x

Hi Amy - Thank you! It's not difficult - you know how you put together papers? Well I just put together fabrics! The chocolate was very yummy! x

Hey Robert ... you're thinking back to those naughty monkeys aren't you? ;-) x

Kitty said...

Hi Mike ... you slipped in there when I wasn't looking ;-) It was a lot like Christmas in February! Good to see you back. x
